Acciona, FCC and Ferrovial decided late on Monday not to submit a bid for the contract for the second section of Portugal’s high-speed rail line, between Aveiro and Soure. The three partners had been working for months to put together a proposal and were still analysing the figures as late as Monday, but ultimately concluded that “the numbers didn’t add up”, according to sources close to the consortium. The tender, one of the largest in the pipeline in Europe, has attracted the alliance led by Sacyr, which submitted its proposal on Monday, according to informed sources. It is expected to compete against a joint venture led by the Portuguese company Mota Engil.
