The decision, announced last week by the Prime Minister during the inauguration of the Onuba project in Moeve, Huelva, marks a further step forward in the roll-out of the future national hydrogen transport infrastructure, which will link the country’s main production and consumption hubs and facilitate its integration into the European H2Med corridor. The first pipelines have been selected for their links to industrial projects capable of bringing forward their investment decisions and acting as drivers of demand for renewable hydrogen.
Specifically, the first of these projects is Onuba, the renewable hydrogen plant that Moeve has begun to build in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva), with an initial electrolysis capacity of 300 MW. The project, which has received a grant of 303.75 million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), has requested that the 59-kilometre Huelva–Aznalcázar section be fast-tracked, with an estimated investment of 95.7 million euros. This infrastructure forms part of the future Huelva–Almendralejo section.
