Carmen de Andrés Conde
Biography
Carmen de Andrés was the first woman to qualify as a Civil Engineer in Spain, graduating in 1973.
She was the first woman to join the State Corps of Civil Engineers through a competitive examination in 1981.
She has served as Deputy Director of Planning and Regulation at the Directorate-General for the Environment within the Ministry of Public Works, and as Director-General for Technology Policy at the Ministry of Industry and Energy; she has also been a director of the Puentes Group and OHLA.
She is currently Chair and majority shareholder of Creatividad y Tecnología, S.A., a consultancy firm specialising in innovation and sustainability.
She was awarded the Medal of Honour by the Association of Civil Engineers in 2009; and the 2021 National Civil Engineering Award, becoming the first woman to receive this honour.
